If anyone is also in need of more complete Greek character support, I wanted to report that I did get the Gentium Plus typeface working on my Kindle 3. I just downloaded the .ttf files from the SIL website, and then renamed them to conform to the Kindle naming scheme, and then put in them in my linkfonts folder (replacing the serif fonts already there), like NiLuJe described. I'm using the "light" hinting option, and the text is comfortably readable. I don't feel like it's as clear as Droid Serif was, but it has a much wider character support, so it's an acceptable compromise. If I'm reading at length from a book that doesn't need support for the additional characters, I'll probably switch the font over to my sans serif typeface, Droid Sans, which looks great.

Thanks for the great hack and clear instructions NiLuJe, and all others that have contributed. If anyone has any suggestions that could tweak this setup to make it better, that would be appreciated, but for now, this works for me! Thanks!
