Perhaps the thinking is you can easily access your Shortlist from the Home screen. There you would have your current reading list.
I've had books bumped off the home screen by new additions and I don't care for it. I always have to open the ones that were bumped off just so they'll be on the home screen again, not necessarily to read at that particular time.
