By any chance would your network happen to be ad-hoc? The nook HAYTESES ad-hoc networks. It refuses to aknowledge them. There is a hack, but I'm almost certain it requires rooting.
Also, you can try and download an alternate Android OS (Like Nookie Gingerbread or Cyanogen Mod 7.03), then install it on an SD card just to see if your nook can see your network (heck, you may like it better than 1.2.0. I love CM7 on my Droid original).
