And now, on the whole, I regret the time spent on these books. The individual books are OK, but the series doesn't really go anywhere, and the human characters never really seemed real to me.

Disappointing. I expected better, it's certainly nowhere near the best of the other things of his that I've read.

Next up: Mr & Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy by Sharon Lathan

I thought a complete change of pace would be good. I got this when it was a freebie. On the half chapter I've read so far I'm not sure it's worth more than that, but I'll give it a chapter or two to prove me wrong first.
