Neither are the majority of Android phones. Only a sliver of of that whole worldwide market that's growing market-share faster than anyone else are the latest most bleeding-edge technology in cellphones. In the US, the two year contracts contribute to this.
Froyo (Android 2.2) is still the king of the hill where stats are concerned, claiming 59.4% of users. It's important to note, however, that its numbers, too, are dropping (just last month, it accounted for 64.6% of Android devices). That's because of the Gingerbread updates that many manufacturers have begun pushing out - and it shows in Gingerbread's latest statistics. When all four versions of 2.3 are taken into account (2.3, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, and the most recent 2.3.4, which added support for video chat), the OS version is now installed on 18.6% of Android phones - a figure that's more than double what it was in June.

I know plenty of people with iPhones who couldn't care less what phone everyone else is using.
