Not chilady, but maybe I can help.

If it's anything like the iPhone, iTunes puts the book in a different folder, the Documents Folder I believe and this will not sync. It needs to be put in the folder 'KindleApp\Library\ebooks' like chilady stated in order for it to sync.

No, not the ipad home key but the home key in the Kindle App. If you touch the middle of the page while reading, a 'Home' button will appear at the top left. Click that to return to the home page of the Kindle App.
