You cannot type on the e-ink side. You can read/write with the stylus, but that is about all for input purposes.

If your using Ermine, then the system update notification is a flop, so yes.
Anyways, good luck with your PEs and with college in general. I'm in my second year now myself and just recently upgraded to the 10.1" Entourage Edge so I could read/write easier on the e-ink side. It is also good for saving money on textbooks by getting the electronic ones and being able to clearly read them on the e-ink side.
