Well... Doesn't the rest of your life seems a very long period for something that is not 'yet' ready for the consumer market?

I really do agree that you did have a nasty experience with your Iliad, but who knows how the technology is evolving in the next few years?
I entered the world of ebooks only recently, and already prefer the reading experience on an eInk-device over reading from a laptop or my android smartphone... In summer, I really enjoy reading outdoors, you know.

As for the format: although the 'p' in pdf stands for 'portable', I don't consider it a real 'portable' ebook-format, as it largely depends on your screen how your reading experience is. For Ebooks, I prefer ePub.
