I've had Kindles since they first came out, 2 Sony readers, a Nook Simple Touch and a Kobo Touch and haven't experienced a broken screen or device yet. Heck, my K1 still works( I gave it to a relative).

I think the fact that I always have mine in a case helps. I also take great care of my electronics.

Sorry about your ereader, OP. But, I'm happy for you that you found the right device for you. That, IMO, is what really matters.
