actually, growing up in the southwest, I really do know what scorchers are. I also had the extreme misfortune of backpacking Havasu Canyon (a tributary to the Grand Canyon) in 130 degree temps. 80 is hot here in early July. the typical saw around here is that summer does not start until July 5th. it is not at all uncommon to be wearing sweaters and long pants and setting off fireworks, or even sporting an umbrella at the beach for the fireworks display!
