I am not familiar with the other ebooks, but the Sony does allow you to sort the books within a collection. So a series will show up in series order.

Using Calibre you can create series like collection for ANY reason you want. I use that to make collection by author, but withit the author the books are sorted into series, with each series in order. I also have added SubSeries, so the forementioned Caves of Stell is Series "Robot" and SubSeries "Elijah Baley" and also ordered in Genre "sciFi" and within Author "Asimov, Isaac"

I use a custom series l;ike column for Author as the default for the collecion based on the Authors names in the meta=data is alphabetical.
