N00b Question

I've been researching eReaders and my head is close to exploding....

My question is (hopefully) simple. I am looking for an eReader that is open source (since I am heading down that path now), can be used with a MBP and can either be tethered to my Mac or use WiFi as I am on Active Duty and don't always have a reliable WiFi connection.

I am currently looking at the Cybook series as well as Kobo. I have the Kobo reader for my iPod Touch (yes, I know it isn't open source...lol) and like the Kobo.

I know that everyone has a different opinion but I am taking suggestions and will continue the research.
