I think there have been quite a few good authors in the last fifty years. I tend to return to reading them fairly ofter. I have a very narrow set of criteria for books I want to read and if I manage to meet my criteria I'm rarely disappointed. If I'm pushed out of the narrow criteria there is more risk.
