It concerns the rubber shoes called "Crocs." They are very, very common-place here for everyone from small children to grandparents, worn both with and without socks. I have multiple pairs of Crocs, and yes, they are ugly. They go very well with the aforementioned cargo pants, though, and they're oh-so-comfortable:
