There really aren't that many American in Asia, compared with Brits, Canadians, Kiwis and Aussies. Proly less than 10% American. But Japan is big on fireworks, and there are several major holidays with displays. As I said, you can purchase mini-fireworks in all the shops; sparklers, and wizzzers mostly, though you can easily find the aerial displays too.
There is a festival in mid-August in Osaka called PL-Hanabi (hanabi = fire flowers) where SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS worth of fireworks, almost 2,000,000 different aerials, are shot off over the course of about 90 minutes. At any given time, the sky looks like the finale of the US Bi-Centennial Fireworks Display. The PL finale is absolutely breathtaking...
