If your Mac cannot handle running at 100% CPU load for lengthy periods of time then there is something wrong with it! Any modern machine should be capable of that if it is required.

I make sure that Calibre is running at a low priority so that although it ma be consuming all free CPU, I am still free to do foreground work without being adversely affected.
