My Target has a pretty good selection if what you are looking for is fairly recent and popular. It goes a bit beyond just the best-seller list but if a book has national publicity, it's probably at my Target. Stores like B&N & Borders stock a lot of older titles. If the new stuff is the biggest money maker then I wouldn't be surprised if the discounters are taking a chunk. The bookstore is a special trip for most people but they're at their big box discounter probably 2-4x/month. Easy to just grab a copy of Oprah's latest book club selection while you're picking up laundry detergent.
