Basschick ... check out Louise Penny and her series of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache who investigates murders mainly in the small Quebec town of Three Pines. These are somewhat like updated Agatha Christie: strong characters, intriguing puzzles, sly humour, a murder or two but little gore. The series of six novels are all available as ebooks. Ms Penny recently won her fourth Agatha Award for best novel ... I believe the first time any author has done so.

Depending on your location, some or all should be available at Amazon, Kobo, B&N and Sony. The first title is Still Life.

I've been posting short reviews of (mainly detective) stories in this thread; you'll find lots of recommendations there as well.

And check out Langtail Press for some classic tales at reasonable prices. There's a thread about that here too.
