Yes, trying to read anything on eInk in landscape mode is pointless. using the physical down button, you get the top of each page, losing the gist of the text.

Even using the stylus to use the down arrow in the (then) upper-right hand corner produces the next piece of the text, but doing it again produces that same area on the next page. Using the on-screen up arrow in the upper-left hand corner show un-seen text, but often not what follows the end of the previous page, and often displays half of one line at the top, or half of one line at the bottom.

With no way to smoothly scroll up and down, it's very difficult to maintain any sort of continuity, and unless reading the material is a matter of life or death (or a job or grade) it seems unlikely any but the most masochistic would do it.

For this reason, I just assumed landscape mode was intended to give a better view of diagrams or graphics, and NOT to read content. You really have to use the eInk panel in portrait mode. That's why I re-publish anything I really want to read on it in a smaller page size with larger text.
