Last night I went to visit some old friends with whom I had lost touch for close to 10 years. They are living on some property inherited from his parents, and are working on fulfilling their lifelong dream of starting up a small farm. They've got plenty of acreage and are dabbling with several endeavors -- a few cows, a herd of goats, 4 horses, and chickens. Now I've been lamenting here in the forums about my inability to find fresh eggs locally. When I saw the chicken coop I asked Beth if she got enough eggs to sell some of them, and she hooked a basket off of the kitchen wall, tossed it at me, and said, "We get plenty of eggs. Go out and gather them now and you can have whatever is there." Imagine my joy! I've actually never had the experience of gathering eggs and I'm sure I've never had eggs quite that fresh! I got seven, but Beth rounded it out to a dozen for me from what she had gotten the day before, and slipped me a jar of honey, too (they've also got bees). I had so much fun -- I was giddier than a 4 year old at a petting zoo!
aren't they awesome!? I cringe whenever I have to buy commercial eggs
