I don't really understand the comments about how you must sideload. All the ereaders with a browser will probably be able to download the book directly, and the ones that don't were sideloading anyway.

And the profits are going to be shared between Rowling, her publishers and Sony anyway. Going through retailers would just increase the price of the books, by at least 40% if they go with the evil agency model. It's not like the books can only be sold with the help of the retailers.
