Some folks here haven't actually bought a Touch yet. They might be interested in an alternative that does type better.
Hand-tweaked bitmapped fonts were used on the earlier Macs, with considerable success. Not a bad approach for performance if you don't have the CPU power for complex hinted rendering. However, it means that you have to invest up front in developing the raster versions, the fonts usually wind up looking much like bit-mapped printing on an original Mac low-res wire-matrix printer (with coarse gradations in stroke width), and few font sizes.
