I'm utterly tickled by the explanation, myself. Why don't they honestly say they don't want to share the profits with Amazon and the rest? It's a fair statement to make.
There are plenty of indie books out there available for "all devices". The author sells on Amazon, on B&N, on Kobo, on Sony, on Smashwords, and -- heck, why not -- on their own website.
The THOU MUST SIDELOAD WHETHER THOU WANTS TO OR NOT approach isn't some magical egalitarian perfect future of online equality, it's not wanting to share a cut with the sellers. And that's fine. But call the pig a pig, not an Elbonian Mail Order Bride.
