Can you handle leather against your skin? If you can and don't mind the look, there are many straps that would cover the back of the watch making it easier to wear.

My skin gets irritated very quickly. I've got 2 special watches by Swatch which don't have a metal back or battery cover but I still react to it, same with plastic watches. I suspect my skin also doesn't like it when it can't "breathe". The only 2 watches I have been able to wear is a pewter watch and a G-Shock where the fabric strap continues underneath the watch and the buckle is made of plastic. But they don't make the latter any more and mine is rather bulky and inelegant.
My mother also wants a watch by the same manufacturer and I can try hers out before buying one myself.
These are the watches I'm talking about. This afternoon I'm going to the shop that sells them, hoping they can tell me more.
The metal allergy thing is so annoying.
