I'm not saying Sword of Shannara is a rip-off. It's just the closest influenced book I've yet read. I do feel that the series has taken a turn that makes it less LoTRish and more it's own series.

Yes, a lot of books can be sead to have taken something from LotR. Even HP has some minor similarities. Magic, Dumbldore, Trolls, giant spiders, taverns just to name a few. But overall, the story is a very far divergence from LoTR.
