James, Henry: The Beldonald Holbein, v.1, 23 March 2008.

A short story, written in 1899, first published in 1901. This is the 1903 edition.

The artistic eye causes havoc. The narrator, an artist, wants to paint Lady Beldonald. She always has an ugly paid companion as a foil for her beauty. But what will happen when he finds unsuspected beauties in her latest ugly old lady companion?
