After we allowed it to dry out for several days and it still wouldn't turn on, the other half decided to pop it open (he's an electrical and computer systems engineer) to look over the components and most of them were completely fried.

Woah, don't think I'll ever have kids now. I did enough dropping my iPhone into the toilet and trying to turn it on immediately afterwards.
