Hassle-free, guaranteed PDF reading does not seem to exist on the E Ink ereaders. Only the Kindle DX is close enough to having a big enough display, but its PDF support isn't the best. Sony Readers do well since they run the Adobe's Mobile PDF Reader software, and they support text reflow, but their biggest screen is 7 inches (PRS-950). It seems that even with reflow support, people end up encountering docs that need a larger display to avoid having to horizontally scroll.
I think you may have to relax the care-free, conversion-free PDF support expectation or the E Ink requirement.
