Did you try placing the 2nd generation in a bag of uncooked rice for a couple of days? Rice soaks up water/moister like a sponge and this often drys out wet electronics enough to get them operating again.

Unfortunately, it was on when my daughter decided to give it a bath AND she tried to turn it on before coming to me with the soaking wet iPod (water was actually pouring out from inside of it!) saying, "Mama! It's broken! Fix it, mama! Fix it!"
After we allowed it to dry out for several days and it still wouldn't turn on, the other half decided to pop it open (he's an electrical and computer systems engineer) to look over the components and most of them were completely fried.
