lestatar: The three I saw appeared to be Kindles and Nook (but I can't be sure), but wouldn't be surprised if they are MIC replicas!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the K3 by the way!
I have quite a selection of e-books on my computer with plenty more I could get from "elsewhere", and I have the necessary knowledge to bypass geographic restrictions, so I don't see either B&N or Amazon's regulations as a major issue. :P The only issue here for me would be the technical support given to me by B&N vs Amazon since the former is not required to care about the rest of the world, which I understand perfectly.
I thought I'd get a Kindle when I first embarked on my initial search of e-readers, but I am absolutely unable to get past the keyboard. I only need an e-reader that is of a comfortable size to do reading (never have I annotated; if needed I turn to the ever-trusty pen and paper or my iPhone), and the keyboard is just wasted space and dead weight.
On the other hand, the Nook's touch-screen is not the same as that on an iPhone so I foresee some accidental page-turning that may drive me insane. That said, I'll be able to borrow books from my local library (via Overdrive) and I'll definitely rely on a case (regardless of Nook or Kindle) that will at least increase the amount of hand-holding space; I have big hands so it's a concern. I have more or less settled on a Nook because it's at least functional enough (i.e. without keyboard).
jbcohen: When the iPad was released, I had friends who asked if I have bought it because they think I'm an Apple freak. Other than the awkwardness with which reading can be done, actually I think that the iPad is overly showy with no real function applicable to many people. Yeah, there are fun games and it is a cool and trendy product, but it is essentially just an larger version of an iPod. I have a Macbook and an iPhone; there is no gap to be filled in between the two at all. If the iPad was a Macbook Air (i.e. actual proper OS) without the physical keyboard then yes! I'll shamelessly buy one.
Anyway, haha back to topic: I'm not actually looking for something that's compatible with my iPhone. I might miss reading in the dark on a device with a backlight, but definitely not going to miss the daily charging and my increasingly tired eyes. A dedicated e-reader seems about right at this point in my life!
