Yeah, the guys are right - the ads are part of the deal with the reduced price you paid for the K3, known here as KSO [Kindle Special Offers]. Not much can be done about that stuff.
Give Kindle Customer Service a ring ASAP. Unless money is very very tight, the K3 Wifi is a bargain and not much more than the ad supported one you got. Perhaps they will do a free shipping upgrade exchange for you...
Otherwise, you are kinda stuck...
