James, Henry: The Madonna of the Future, v.1, 22 March 2008.

A short story (1887).
A brilliant artist follows his muse and loses touch with reality. Is there a way back?

This little story is Henry James’s tribute to Balzac. It is a re-telling of Balzac’s ‘Le chef d’oeuvre inconnu’, set in 19th century Italy.
(Incidentally, the original Balzac story – translated as ‘The Hidden Masterpiece’ – has already been uploaded.)
