Sport sandals offer more stability, traction and protection than regular sandals. They usually have a wider perimeter, extra length for your toes and sometimes will cover the toes a big. They also have traction on the bottom.
sport sandals are the awesomeness! as a lifelong Girl Scout, most of that now as an adult Scout, it is really difficult for me to endorse "sandals" as outdoor footgear (we ban them at camp [other than shower shoes] due to foot injuries). but these outdoor sandals are fantastic! as long as they have the toe protection (for camp) I think they are great!
