Since it only seems to work to organize books bought from that site - what advantage is there to this 'free' utility? To let me buy things?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this question. It looks like the advantage - aside for getting it free on that particular day rather than paying the normal price for it - is that it acts like a download manager, meaning that you don't have to waste your time downloading each file individually from LibriVox until you get the whole audiobook - as you would normally have to do given that the audiobooks are usually broken into multiple segments, and gives you the opportunity to sample each narrator (there are usually multiple versions of books) so you can choose the one you want to listen to. IIRC, LibriVox audiobooks are read by volunteers so there is a difference in the voice talent.
LibriVox audiobooks are
free, so you're not paying for anything from them. This bit of software is normally not free. It's just a useful utility if you like to get audiobooks from LibriVox; it doesn't force you to "buy" any audiobooks.
I've downloaded free software offerings from Giveaway of the Day for years, and have gotten some really useful software from them for free.
