Easily. I can do that from any device with wi-fi and a web browser. The default log-in credentials for the web admin page for the router should be included in the user manual or quick start guide. SSID is usually the manufacturer's name and wi-fi is generally not encrypted by default.

On a cable modem, we don't need a username/password in order to connect. We call the cable company and give them the MAC address of the cable modem which they then activate with their service.
