Interesting that it made a difference for you. I just spent several hours measuring memory consumption for edit metadata multiple and edit metadata single, with and without the tag browser open, and using a 4000-book library and a 20,000-book library. Other than an initial hit of around 1 MB per 1000 books on the first edit metadata, having the tag browser open made no difference. In addition, there wasn't any significant memory growth in any scenario.

There is clearly something different between our configurations.
