You can use calibre with multiple devices but they cannot be connected at the same time.
The Elonex EB 511 is supported. If his device is a different model a little bit of work is necessary to get it to work. In this case go into Preferences, Miscellaneous. There is a button that says debug device detection. First click it without the Elonex or any other reader connected. Copy the output someplace. Plugin the Elonex. Wait 1 - 2 minutes.
