Additionally, under Setting, Edge Settings, Journal Preferences you can change your default Pencil Thickness Preference and this may improve your writing. My son likes a Fine Pencil Thickness while Medium seems to work better for me. Also, ensure the Pencil Mode is set to None. You can also set the default Paper Style Preference from here as well.
