Here is my advice. BEFORE you buy any ereader:
- Download and install a copy of Calibre. This is ebook management software that also converts to different formats as long as the ebooks are NOT DRM. Trust me - you will need some software help to manage your ebooks you download.
- Download and install a copy of Sigil. This is a EPUB editor. It is basic - but there is nothing else like it. This will allow you to see both the text of an ebook and the markup tags in a split window.
- Go to this fourm for the member-created epub files. Down load a few of them. Edit them in Sigil (or at least look at the insides), load them into Calibre.
- Go to a favorite Literary site or Fan-Fiction site. Cut and paste a few stories into Sigil, create epub out of them and load them into Calibre.
Now you have an idea of what downloading or creating your own ebooks is like and you don't even have to buy a reader.
With the internet - you can spend YEARS downloading and creating ebooks - all legally and royalty free.
Some suggested sites:

ASSTR.org

(These are all free and legal to read or download - and this is barely scratching the surface).
For commercial books - check out Inkmesh as a ebook search engine. It tends to show you where to get the best prices.
