Are you running Dingo or Ermine? Many Edge owners have reported lag when using Dingo which is significantly reduced when using Ermine. Also, when you run the e-ink calibration do NOT hold the stylus at a 90 degree angle when touching the calibration points. Touch them naturally as if you are actually writing. Once you feel more comfortable with the writing in the Journal which I think works great, you may want to consider a better full size stylus. Here's a suggestion:

Wacom Penabled Pen like the Motion Computing LE1600 & LS800 Series. I personally own one of these and it is much better than the stock stylus. It feels much more natural.
