I know many people who feel as you do.
I realized how much I missed her (and Venus) when I noticed that I hadn't watched a match in almost as long as she was out. I didn't even watch Andy's (Murray) matches. I just didn't care about tennis for that time.
Like I said earlier, she was my introduction to tennis. I admire her determination, strength, and athleticism. I admire Venus' strength, athleticism, and grace. Amidst their ups and downs, their mistakes, and the way others have chosen to treat them, they've done what they needed to do - not only to get where they are, but to plan for their (none tennis related) futures. No one can take that away from them.
As far as their dominance in the sport, its there for a reason. All of the ladies in the field had their opportunities to shine, and apparently (if I am to believe the commentators) no one chose to take it. It is not their responsibility to show how or to allow others to take their place.
