Calibre keeps the metadata separate from the ebook files, since not all ebooks allow for metadata (or Calibre can't edit due to DRM). Usually, Calibre keeps the info in a file called metadata.opf in the same directory as the books it is meant to. If transfering your library, make sure this gets copied too.
One other thing to do is to try and convert the books, with the output to the same format. This sounds strange, but Calibre will put the correct metadata in to the ebook when it creates it. This way, you can just import the books into the other calibre library, as if you were doing it for the first time, but the info is still as you want it.
