I've been using the Amazon app store more and more. It's not perfect either, but one thing they do well is promote discounts and markdowns. That's definitely in their wheelhouse. Selection isn't up to par yet, but it's also not bogged down with spammy stuff yet. I have no desire to get a google checkout account either.
