Absolutely call them! Do it through support on Amazon.com. There is a button to click to receive a phone call from support. They'll get back to you immediately.
Amazon replaced my Kindle when it was months out of warranty. I had a replacement the very next day. Just tell them what you wrote here -- don't tell them it is cracked.
