While you're waiting for your Kindle to arrive, you can always begin downloading free (out-of-copyright) books from the
wonderful archive here on MobileRead as well as the other online sources of free books such as Project Gutenberg. (Many of these are also available as $0.00 books on Amazon.com, but the ones available here on MobileRead are generally formatted much better!)
Look for books in either MOBI or PRC format.
