I agree completely with what you've said. I make up my own mind on what to buy (or not). Where I do find reviews (more importantly book bloggers) very helpful is when it comes to discovering new authors or novels you wouldn't normally have come across. I've got a couple of blogs I follow and they tend to like the same type of stuff I enjoy. If they review a new novel and like it, I'm more or less certain that I'd enjoy it as well.
