If you are selling through the iBookstore maybe you should only deliver the epub format? I did not actually know that the ibookstore would let you deliver a format that could not be loaded directly into iBooks?

You also need to think about the fact that with the imminent release of iOS 5 that people may stop using iTunes altogether and be using iCloud instead. Certainly Apple are going to be promoting solutions that do not require the use of a PC or Mac.
