Yeah, so am I.

I expected the sleep mode would consume less power as the internal computer doesn't have to run through its power consuming boot routine every time.

I guess that's not the case though, because sleep definitely lowers battery life. I certainly get 100% of the Kobos advertised battery life when I use power off each time and stay away from the WiFi.
