1938 - T. H. White's The Sword in the Stone was published, the first volume in the eventual quartet known as The Once and Future King.

*note - I sourced this from the great stories in literature website which headed today's entry with "For Those Potter'd out" in reference to the recent media saturation with speculation that JK Rowling is about to write more Potter. I giggled.
