Where does the NC store BN content?

I bought a NC last weekend and I have a question about how the NC handles BN content. After registering, the NC, it downloaded about 4 books from my BN library and I manually downloaded the rest (about 45 all told) . When I hooked my NC to my computer via USB and I opened the B&N Downloads folder, there was nothing in it. I re-checked my books, and they work, though the settings said I had 100% of 1 GB memory available. I side loaded some books, and they work on the NC and show up when I access the NC via computer. The side loaded stuff also seems to count against my available memory. I've had a Nook WiFi for over a year and had a Sony 505 before that, so I'm not a newb. When I hook my Nook WiFi up to my computer, I can see all the content, side loaded or B&N purchased.
I tried calling B&N support, but I don't believe what I was told. I was told that the NC doesn't store anything purchased from B&N, and that my NC accesses my books from the server even when the Wifi is turned off.
So here are my questions:
Where does the NC store files downloaded from B&N?
Am I supposed to be able to see that content on my computer?
Basically, I'm trying to determine if there is something wrong with my NC, or if B&N is doing something screwy with file management. The NC does have the latest software and does seem to work fine in every other respect.
